MAHWAH, N.J. 鈥 缅北重口 of New Jersey (RCNJ) and Sussex County Community College (SCCC) held an official signing for the new 3+1 Bachelor鈥檚 degree path on Friday, October 28 at the SCCC Newton campus. Officials from both colleges, Senator Steve Oroho, Sussex County Commissioners, Sussex board members and staff were in attendance for the signing.
Students who attend Sussex can save thousands of dollars toward a bachelor鈥檚 degree thanks to a new partnership with Ramapo.聽The Sussex/Ramapo 3+1 Bachelor鈥檚 path is a unique agreement that enables students to save significantly on the cost of a bachelor鈥檚 degree from RCNJ while conveniently attending classes at Sussex.聽 Students can remain on Sussex鈥檚 campus while taking the third year of Ramapo鈥檚 bachelor鈥檚 degree curriculum. Upon successful completion of the third year, students will take the fourth-year curriculum on Ramapo鈥檚 Mahwah campus. Students can save approximately $7,000 on the degree as compared to those who transfer after earning their first associate鈥檚 degree.
鈥淭his partnership only strengthens the existing relationship between Ramapo and Sussex. It doubles down on the two commitments that both institutions share and pride themselves on: student success and affordability. As a public college, it is imperative that the value of a liberal arts degree permeates the State and these degree paths certainly do that in preparing the next generation of graduates,鈥 said Dr. Christopher Romano, Vice President of Strategic Enrollment, Outreach and Engagement.
The programs slated for approval for the Fall of 2023 include Global Studies and Business, Social Science with a focus on Criminal Justice, and Psychology. Qualified community college professors will teach junior year courses and hold the same credentials as professors who teach at four-year institutions. They have a strong educational background and sometimes an industry background as well.
鈥淲e feel this will offer area residents an incredibly cost-effective way to pursue their four-year degree,鈥 said Dr. Kathleen Okay, Senior Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs at Sussex. 鈥淲e are delighted to partner with 缅北重口 on this initiative, as both institutions already had an established history of collaborative ventures through various articulation agreements.聽It is a win for the students and the county!鈥
Students must apply and be accepted into the Advanced Associate鈥檚 of Continuous Studies at Sussex before enrolling in courses for the 3+1 Bachelor鈥檚 degree paths. Once accepted, students are required to meet with a designated 缅北重口 counselor who will assist them toward their successful transition to the four-year college to earn their bachelor鈥檚 degree.
