Residential Networking (ResNET) provides high-speed Ethernet access for students living in the 缅北重口 Residence Halls (Pine, Linden, Bischoff Hall, and Mackin Hall), College Park Apartments, The Village and Overlook. ResNET’s primary responsibility is to support network connectivity. When an appointment is made, ResNET will bring test equipment to verify the connectivity of the port\/computer.<\/p>\n
ResNET does not usually provide Technical support other than email and internet\/network connectivity related problems. In this regard ResNET WILL NOT open computers or fix hardware\/software problems. This policy will not be broken under ANY circumstances. This policy also includes the installation of the required Ethernet card. As a result, occasions may occur when you will may need to bring your computer to a store (Staples, BestBuy, etc) or to the manufacturer to have it fixed or the Ethernet card installed.<\/p>\n
We do not support computers that do not meet the minimum requirements. During peak hours the network may experience slower speeds due to increased online activity.<\/p>\n

Computers and information technology have become an integral part of academic, administrative and residential life. ResNET is committed to providing in-room network connections in Residence Halls. These connections provides residential access to network resources, including e-mail, Library resources and the World Wide Web as additional support of the overall mission of the college. ResNET will strictly enforce the following network policies:<\/p>\n
Memo: Illegal file sharing<\/em>\u00a0January 28, 2008<\/em><\/p>\n It is imperative that all students read the following memo on illegal sharing of copyrighted materials in its entirety.<\/p>\n The purpose of this memo is to officially notify all students, that it is a violation of federal law and College policy to share and\/or distribute copyrighted materials without the permission of the copyright holder. Violators may be subject to civil and criminal prosecution under the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), as well as personal sanctions specified in College policy.<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/statements-policies\/<\/a><\/p>\n 缅北重口 has received a significant increase in complaints from representatives of the motion picture, music recording, and software industries. There have been ten complaints over the last month. The majority of the complaints are directly related to the use of file-sharing software, such as KaZaA, Gnutella, Morpheus and similar programs.<\/p>\n File sharing software is most commonly used to download music, movies and other media. Many do not realize that this software may turn your personal computer into a server, or upload site, even if that was not your intent. Many viruses also propagate through peer to peer software, and this has a direct impact on services for our entire community. Files on your network connected computer may then be illegally shared with everyone connected to Internet. It is imperative that the file sharing capability of these systems be disabled. If you do not know how to disable this function, please contact the Help Desk at 684-7777 or\u00a0helpdesk@ramapo.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n Industry representatives actively monitor the Internet to discover incidents of illegal file sharing. When violations are discovered, they contact the network owner and ResNET user and 缅北重口 from further culpability under the DMCA, 缅北重口 will disable network access for any machine for which a DMCA complaint has been received.<\/p>\n Students with these alleged violations will have their cases referred from the ITS Department to the Office of Student Conduct\u00a0where a judicial officer will be assigned to the case. Incidents of this nature are a violation of the College\u2019s Responsible Use of Electronic Communications Policy and a violation of our Code of Conduct (Code #24). Students will receive a Notice to Attend a Disciplinary Proceeding through their campus mailbox. In some cases, depending on the egregiousness of the offense and\/or a student\u2019s prior record, the case could be adjudicated by the College Judicial Review Board which administers penalties, under a finding of guilt, that are suspension and expulsion level.
