An Applied Mathematics degree can open doors into many different industries including operations research, data science, finance, statistics, and research. The mathematical reasoning, computational skills, and ability to apply them to solve real problems are all skills valued by employers and provide many of the goals of this program.

Being part of the Center for Data, Mathematical, and Computational Sciences provides additional collaborative opportunities between the Applied Mathematics and the Data Science and Computer Science programs. The intersecting curricula gives enrolled students an additional interdisciplinary perspective in all courses, including mathematics courses, which will make them highly effective team members in the workplace.

The job market for Mathematicians and Statisticians is growing with high paying jobs. The US News and World report’s 100 Best Jobs list ranks Statistician as #6, Mathematician as #14, and Operations Research Analyst as #20 demonstrating the value of this career path.

Our Master of Science (MS) in Applied Mathematics degree is a 30-credit program with course work in Applied Statistics, Linear Algebra and Probability, Mathematical Modeling, Cryptography, and Machine Learning. Full-time students will complete their degree in two years, however students may work towards the degree part-time as well. Courses are delivered as a combination of online, hybrid, and evening in-seat format.

Current Ramapo students in Computer Science, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or Data Science may also be eligible to complete the 4+1 program and earn their M.S. in their 5th year at Ramapo.

International Students: F-1 nonimmigrant students graduating with an MS in Applied Mathematics are eligible for the DHS’s STEM OPT program. Please contact Rajesh Adhikari, Office of International Student and Scholar Services at radhikar@ramapo.edu to discuss any immigration issues and concerns.

GRE scores are not required. Applications are evaluated based on work experience, undergraduate GPA, and recommendation letters.

Credits: 30

Format: Hybrid

Full-time/Part Time Option: FT or PT

Estimated cost (per credit / total):

Per credit = $1,388 Duration: 2 years FT, PT

Start Term: Fall and Spring

See Admissions Requirements

View Curriculum
