Please visit <\/span>https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/hgs\/convening-group-international-studies\/<\/a><\/span> to learn more about the major and minor.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n The International Studies program seeks to prepare students for the complex, challenging,\u00a0 dynamic and interdependent world of the 21st century.\u00a0 As we enter this “global village,” the acquisition of new skills, additional knowledge and wisdom will be necessary for effective citizenship and career aspirations.\u00a0 The International Studies program is designed to meet this challenge.<\/p>\n The program focuses on political, economic, and cultural interdependencies and their effects on people in the emerging global system.\u00a0 Interdisciplinary issues of war and peace, economic and political development, and cross-cultural communication are examined, as are global concerns of population, environment, and human rights.\u00a0 International Studies students become knowledgeable about another world culture, proficient in another language, and participate in an exciting and rewarding international credit-bearing experiential program.\u00a0 An extensive array of study abroad\u00a0options are available, as well as internship, co-op,\u00a0and service learning placements.\u00a0 Students may consult their advisor or the International Education Office in the Roukema Center for International Education (ASB 123) to find out more about Study Abroad opportunities.\u00a0 Resources are also available on the web.<\/p>\n Majors are required to fill an experiential learning requirement (ideally a semester-long study abroad, international cooperative education, internship or service learning experience).\u00a0 Students can enrich and broaden their academic program through participation in the Model United Nations Club, the International Student Organization, and other college organizations and clubs.<\/p>\n A degree in International Studies provides an excellent basis for a wide range of careers in business, government, and education, as well as for admission to graduate and professional schools which are increasingly seeking “globally literate” individuals.\u00a0 Graduates of this program with a combination of foreign language skills and a strong background in international affairs will be increasingly well positioned for these types of positions as the “globalization” of business, government, and education accelerates in the future.<\/p>\n The International Studies faculty is a diverse, expert, and active group of professors from a variety of fields and with extensive international experience.<\/p>\n The International Studies major is offered by the Salameno School of Humanities and Global Studies and leads to a B.A. degree.<\/p>\n A minor is available.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n Outcome 1: <\/strong>Students will demonstrate knowledge of current international issues.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Outcome 2: <\/strong>Students will demonstrate global geographic literacy.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Outcome 3: <\/strong>Students will demonstrate proficiency in theoretical approaches to the study of culture, politics, and globalization.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Outcome 4: <\/strong>Students will have first-hand experiences of other cultures and international workplaces through participation in study abroad programs, international cooperative education, and internship programs.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Outcome 5: <\/strong>Students will gain expertise in a specific region of the world.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n <\/p>\n\n
